Having been recognised some years ago as an "excellent" Council by the Audit Commission, this is an exciting time to be thinking about joining us as we continue to implement our vision of "Building on excellence" and deal with the challenges arising from changing Government and public expectations.
As a progressive Council we have a range of Customer Service Excellence awards and have achieved exceptional levels of resident and staff satisfaction. Recently we achieved 'Gold' and 'Champion' status in our Investors in People (IiP) assessment for the second time. Our achievements are built upon values that demonstrate a deep commitment to public service, authenticity and accountability to our residents.
There is always more we can do and we are continually looking to learn and improve. We place great emphasis on getting staff involved in decision making at all levels of the organisation and encourage people to cross traditional job boundaries to work with colleagues from other parts of the Council. We are at the forefront of sector-led improvement and have a new Improvement Plan to take us through the next few years.
As with all public sector organisations we are rising to the challenges and opportunities offered by the Government's legislative and regulatory programmes. The Elmbridge way of working means that we are already an open and accountable organisation that helps to facilitate participation in decision making and volunteering. The current Strategic Director - Services retires in March 2012 and we are now recruiting his replacement, but not necessarily for the exact portfolio of services in the current configuration. A decision on precise responsibilities will be made on the basis of the successful candidate's skills and experience.
We want exceptional people to join our exceptional organisation in order to ensure that our residents receive the very best services. We have put in place a range of measures that we believe will help us remain an employer of choice and a summary of these is included in this pack.
